Introduction to Art: Basic Principles This class introduces the basic principles of drawing and painting. Description This is part II of the Intro to Art Class. Poetry This workshop-style class will traverse the landscape of human emotion through poetry. Description The Poet’s Perspective isn’t just about rhyming; it’s about the power of precision, the beauty of ambiguity, and the courage to find your own voice. In this workshop-style class, we will traverse the landscape of human emotion. We’ll analyze the classics (poets such as Shakespeare, Dickinson, Hughes, and Poe) alongside contemporary, lesser-known poets currently shaping the modern scene. Whether you are a seasoned writer or someone who thinks they "don't get" poetry, this class offers the freedom to explore what speaks to you. You will build your master’s toolkit by learning the essential vocabulary—metaphor, meter, enjambment, and more—not just to pass a test, but to understand how language creates music. You’ll learn to write brief, punchy analyses that cut through the fluff and get to the heart of a poem's meaning. You will also write your own original works, experimenting with everything from structured sonnets to innovative free verses. Students of all levels are encouraged to come, explore, and create.
