    Introduction to Art: Basic Elements This class introduces the basic elements of drawing and painting. Description In this Introduction to the Basic Elements of Drawing and Painting class we will introduce the basic elements of drawing and painting. We will practice each element and then will complete a project incorporating what we have just learned. We will work with a variety of mediums, including pencil, charcoal, acrylics, and watercolors. Students will be given instruction and some work time in class, but the majority of projects will be completed at home. Projects are planned for every skill level so that even the accomplished artist can participate. Students will provide their own supplies and will be responsible to bring them to class each week. Grades are based on willingness to try, class preparation, completed hourly log, class participation, and project completeness, not on level of skill. 1st and 2nd semester classes are different; students can take one or both semesters.     World History This course is a broad sweep of history, which will take students from Creation to present day Description Using Notgrass Exploring World History, this course is a broad sweep of history, which will take students from Creation to present day with a Christian worldview perspective using primary sources and hands-on activities. Semester 1 will cover the Creation through the Middle Ages and students will need Book 1. Semester 2 will cover the Renaissance to the Present and will require Book 2.     Anatomy and Physiology This class introduces students to the different body systems and the organs that support them. Description Beginning with cells, this course introduces students to the different body systems and the organs which make up those systems, including the skeletal, muscular, digestive, nervous, and circulatory systems. Along the way, students will not only learn how each system works, but will learn how the different systems work together. This course is hands-on with activities such as dissection, stations, and other labs to promote understanding of the topics discussed.     1st Grade Animals in God's Creation We will become little scientists as we investigate all different types of animals. Requirements Children entering the 1st grade class must demonstrate the following IN ADDITION TO turning age 6 on or before September 30th of the current school year: Follows rules and routines at home and in Kindergarten. Sustains attention to a single task over a period of time. Recognizes all the letters of the alphabet in order. Identifies basic sight words. Reads and writes his/her own name. Can sound out or write familiar words· Understands and follows simple directions. Weekly Tuition $30/week for the 1st child and $25/week for any children thereafter per family. Activity Fee The activity fee for 1st grade is $40.00. Your child's instructor will send a classroom welcome letter and will include information about the materials fee.     Car Line Pick Up (Sign) Schedule / Shift (If Applicable) Key Responsibilities Be at KDO by 2:20, and pick up the STOP sign at the front desk. Stand at the front of the car line with the stop sign. Watch the children, and make sure they are in the cars before the line moves. You must watch each side of the cars to make sure it’s all clear. Once the Lead Car line support gives a thumbs up at the back of the line, turn the sign to GO. Encourage cars up as close to the curve in the sidewalk to let as many cars load as possible.     Photography II Use your camera to capture and share your hobbies, interests and adventures. Description In Photography II, students will review basic concepts learned in Photography I and then build on those concepts. Students will learn about legal and ethical issues in photography, hear from local professional photographers and learn how to evaluate photographs. Students will learn about and practice several different kinds of digital photography: portraiture, family and newborn photography, landscape photography, product photography and macro photography. Students will practice and demonstrate these skills and concepts by taking and critiquing their own photos, completing photography assignments, evaluating their knowledge of vocabulary and technical terms through quizzes and completing a portfolio of their work to be shared with the class. Photography I is not required as a prerequisite for this course, but it is encouraged.     National Parks I Explore the wild, historic, and breathtaking landscapes of America's National Parks. Description Pack your boots (and books) as we prepare to explore the wild, historic, and breathtaking landscapes of America's National Parks. This course is a journey through American History and culture using the "living museums" of the United States. Together we'll discover the process taken to create the National Parks System. We will dig deep into the history, science, and geography of our most iconic landmarks and many lesser known American marvels. This particular class will cover the first 31 National Parks including Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Denali, and Grand Canyon. Additionally, we will explore many of the National Designations. In class, we will explore the parks through interactive activities, experiments, and discussion. Homework will include weekly reading, podcasts and basic research into specific National Parks. Students will be asked to regularly share their findings on these parks. In addition to weekly homework, a road trip project will be assigned. This is a stand alone class and can be combined with a 2nd semester which will uncover the remaining 32 National Parks including, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Pinnacles and more. This course could count toward .5 credit for either Geography or History.
