Apologetics Be ready to give a defense (apologia) to everyone who asks the reason for the hope we have! Description 1 Peter 3:15 says that we are to be ready to give a defense (apologia) to everyone who asks the reason for the hope we have. Starting with Defining Truth, we will build a solid foundation that will give the students the understanding and confidence to express that hope, equipping them to stand firm in a culture that can be combative to GOD’s order of Creation. Topics discussed will be evidence for the existence of GOD, other world religions in comparison to Christianity, the reality of the resurrection of Christ, the historicity of the Bible, archaeological evidence of the Bible. Other topics of discussion will include gender, same sex marriage, climate change, etc. During each lesson we will look at tactics on how we could respond to an opposing view so as to bring understanding. If time permits, we will even take a look at the 2nd Amendment and the Separation of Church and State to test their validity in scripture. Homework will be to “Ponder and Respond,” where the students will be asked to ponder a specific topic and respond with their thoughts/reasons and a scripture to back it up. Bible reading, class discussion and some videos will be used in class. A Bible is required for class. This class is geared for High School, but a mature Bridge student may be considered. Physics Introductory physics class, but will adequately prepare students for college level physics. Description Using Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Physics, students will study the science of physics. This course is designed as an introductory physics class, but will adequately prepare students for college level physics. Because the science of physics is an attempt to explain everything that is observed in nature, this text is an overview of the advances made over the last three thousand years! While that may seem like a monumental task, we’ll break the content down and work through it piece-by-piece. We will take two weeks to cover each module, and labs will be done in class each week. Homework will include reading, on-your-own problems, practice problems and review questions. Tests will be taken at home, and lab reports or lab worksheets will be assigned as well. When they are finished with the course, students will be able to do things such as: -Relate Velocity, Acceleration, Time, and Displacement -Use Mathematical Equations for One-Dimensional Motion -Understand and apply Newton’s Laws -Be able to see the strong connection between math and science Some important concepts covered in Apologia’s high school physics include, but aren’t limited to: One and two-dimensional motion Newton’s laws and their applications in nature Work and energy Electricity Magnetism Momentum Periodic motion Waves Optics Class Status Class Status: Open Enrollment Instructor Lauren Miles Credits 1 Credit Period Period 1: 8:15 - 9:30am Term Full Year Requirements and Prerequisites - (if applicable) Students MUST have successfully completed Algebra I AND Geometry. “Successful” is up to the parent’s discretion, but please understand that the course relies on a solid understanding of math concepts taught in algebra and geometry.
