KDO meets every Thursday during the academic year. Elementary classes run from 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM. Bridge and High School classes run from 8:15 AM – 2:30 PM. Is KDO Academy a private school? No. KDO Academy is not a private school. KDO is a homeschool resource and enrichment program. Parents remain the primary educators. KDO supplements and supports the homeschool journey — it does not replace it. Is KDO Academy accredited? KDO Academy is a homeschool resource program, not an accredited school. High School courses are transcript-ready, meaning parents can confidently document coursework with KDO's structured grading and academic support to provide to your approved evaluator. Elementary families use the Atrium Circle car line and are issued a KDO Pickup Placard at orientation. High School and Bridge students enter through the glass atrium doors. Personal Finance Provides students with knowledge and application of basic financial principles. Description This course will cover the Foundations in Personal Finance series by Dave Ramsey. The goal of this curriculum is to empower students with knowledge and application of basic financial principles so they can make sound financial decisions for life. Each week students will learn important financial concepts, taught by Dave Ramsey and his team of experts, as they work through their student text workbook. Class activities include reviewing key principles, creating a budget, participating in a stock market simulation game, check writing, bank reconciliation, roommate agreements, college options and loans, understanding your paycheck and taxes, etc. To apply what they are learning, students will have additional homework each week which will include video segments and student workbook pages and supplemental exercises, such as: maintaining a working budget, establishing an emergency savings amount, researching a car to buy, writing a resume, learning interviewing practices, etc. Students will complete a cost-of-living assignment and present to the class a working budget for a projected job with actual living expenses. The Instructor has completed the Dave Ramsey training sessions required to teach this course. This class is geared for 11th and 12th grade but is open to any High School student. Research Writing Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of research and writing. Description In this yearlong Research Writing course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of research writing through a structured progression of essay assignments. Throughout the semester, students will engage in writing and developing various types of essays, including narrative, compare/contrast, summary/response, and a longer research paper we will adapt to become an argumentative paper. Students will create an infographic poster to present and share their research at the end of the year. With these assignments, students will build writing skills step-by-step. There will be a strong emphasis on writing multiple drafts, receiving feedback, making revisions, and refining work to enhance clarity and coherence. Bridge Speech Students will earn the basic skills needed to improve their communication skills. Description In this introductory course, students learn the basic skills needed to improve their communication skills. The course includes units covering social speaking, reading aloud, storytelling, poetry reading, speech organization, and formal speeches. Impromptu activities and games are part of each lesson to help the student become more comfortable speaking in group situations.
