Research Writing
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of research and writing.

Description
In this yearlong Research Writing course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of research writing through a structured progression of essay assignments. Throughout the semester, students will engage in writing and developing various types of essays, including narrative, compare/contrast, summary/response, and a longer research paper we will adapt to become an argumentative paper. Students will create an infographic poster to present and share their research at the end of the year. With these assignments, students will build writing skills step-by-step. There will be a strong emphasis on writing multiple drafts, receiving feedback, making revisions, and refining work to enhance clarity and coherence. Throughout the year, there will also be opportunities to work on practical skills like building SAT vocabulary, reviewing grammar, MLA formatting, preparing a college essay, writing professional emails, and creating a cover letter, resume and how to write a professional thank you note.
