World Literature
Read and discuss classic works of world literature, from The Odyssey to Animal Farm.

Description
The student will read classic works of world literature, from The Odyssey to Animal Farm. The literature will include novels, poems, plays, and nonfiction. Emphasis is placed on how the literature reflects the historical settings in which the works are set, with a particular emphasis on truth, goodness, and beauty. This course is taught chronologically, so it pairs well with a study of World History. Class time includes class discussion on the books, review of literary terms, and small group activities. The student will complete quarterly tests and essays. Each student will give a presentation on an author they choose at the beginning of the year. Weekly homework includes reading the literature and taking notes.
