Offering Christ-Centered Academics to support Homeschool Families, Kindergarten through Grade 12

Critical Thinking

This class will help students build a strong skill-set in critical thinking.

Description

In this class we will learn to respectfully hear an argument / proposition, thoughtfully break the argument down into its component parts, ask appropriate questions that further clarify the claims, assess the argument based on logical merit, basic assumptions, motive, etc, and then learn to give a loving and thoughtful response both orally and in writing. We will work from several books and texts throughout the year to build a strong skill-set in critical thinking. This will be a very practical, discussion-driven class. We will build an academic foundation of philosophy, science, faith, and logic to vet and cross examine actual current and historical discourse in essays, news, ads, Youtube, etc. We will practice Biblical principles of response to further develop our ability to be salt and light. I recommend this class for anyone in 10 - 12 grade, but especially those who are heading off to college and want to sharpen their ability to filter every new idea they will encounter and present a thoughtful counter argument.
