Constitution

Using the Constitution Alive curriculum, we will be doing a deep dive into the Constitution of the United States. In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “ On every question of construction, carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.” While Tomas Jefferson was not a writer of our Constitution, as the main author of the Declaration, he was well aware of the debating that went on in the process of writing it. It is the goal of this class that we learn not just the words of this great document, but what the intent was. By understanding the thought processes of and who the influencers were of our founding fathers, we will have a much deeper understanding of what this document means and how it was meant to protect our inalienable rights. Video will be used in the teaching of this class from Patriot Academy. “Constitution Alive” workbook is necessary for class. This class is geared for High School but a mature Bridge student may be considered.
