Chemistry
Students will learn concepts that help them understand how the universe works at the micro level.

Description
Using Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd edition (by Kristy Plourde), students will learn high school-level chemistry concepts that help them understand how the universe works at the micro level. Class discussions, laboratory experiments, and engaging hands-on activities are an integral part of this class. Labs will be done nearly every week in class. We will take 2 weeks to cover each module. Homework will include reading, on-your-own questions, study guide questions, practice problems, and lab reports or lab worksheets (spread out over two weeks). Tests will also be completed at home. Successful completion of this class will adequately prepare students for college-level chemistry classes. In this course they will learn: Measurement, Units, and the Scientific Method. Atoms and Molecules Atomic Structure Molecular Structure Polyatomic Ions and Molecular Geometry Changes in Matter and Chemical Reactions Describing Chemical Reactions Stoichiometry Acid-Base Chemistry The Chemistry of Solutions The Gas Phase Energy, Heat, and Temperature Thermodynamics Kinetics Chemical Equilibrium Reduction-and-Oxidation Reactions
