POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

“Let our teaching and influence fall like gentle rain, our words and actions descend like the dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender young plants.” Deuteronomy 32:2

Mission Statement:

We the members of the body of Jesus Christ, bound by the Word of God, have hereby set forth and adopted the following articles for the establishment of operations and control of the non-profit organization, KDO Academy. KDO Academy is a non-denominational, Christ-centered ministry to parents who wish to homeschool their children. The students will be involved in learning activities that have a Christian perspective, and encourage excitement and motivation in learning. This we do in obedience to God’s Word, namely: to train children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Further, we recognize the necessity for the moral and spiritual development of our youth through Christian education in harmony with the Holy Bible. We also recognize that God has placed the father as the head of the household. Therefore the parents of KDO Academy hold the final authority in the training of their child. KDO Academy was established as a resource to these families.

Statement of Faith:

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15, 2 Peter 1:21)

  • We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons –Father, Son and the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Matthew  28:19; John 10:30).

  • We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14;Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35); His sinless life (Hebrews          4:15; 7:26); His miracles  (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9); His           resurrection to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); and His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11; and Revelation 19:11).

  • We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for  Salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of             human nature; and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone are we saved. (John 3:16-19; 5-24; Romans 3:23; 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:9-10; Titus 3:5).

  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto resurrection life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28).

  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life (Romans 8:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19-20; Ephesians 4:30; 5:18).

Discretion Policy:

Please read our discretion policy carefully. We at KDO Academy seek to provide you and your child with a Godly, high quality educational resource opportunity. In order to provide that type of resource, we are asking you to be of one mind with our teachers and board concerning your child and to work diligently with the teachers to provide success for your child in this program.

  • We are confident in our teaching staff and in the curriculum being used. Our teachers have Child line Clearance fingerprinting, and criminal checks. We understand that there may be parents who wish to observe the activities in the classroom; by law we may not allow those without clearances in the classroom.

  • If for any reason the teachers observe that your child does not appear to be ready for this class experience, we reserve the right to ask you to withdraw your child. Parents have the right to a thorough explanation as to the teacher’s decision. At the parents’ request, a meeting with the teacher and the board will be held to discuss the decision.

  • Should the teacher observe that your student is not ready for the next level; the teacher reserves the right to ask you to withhold moving your child up to the next class level. The parents always reserve the right to the explanation of this decision. Parents also reserve the right to hold a meeting with the teacher and the board to discuss the decision.

1. Refrain from wearing jeans that have rips/holes/fraying higher than the natural finger tip length.

2. If you wear spandex pants, your hips must be covered.

3. Girls may not wear tops with spaghetti straps, shirts off the shoulders, deep V collar, or expose parts of the body that do not need to be seen, including the midriff.

Responsibilities of Parents:

* Please enter in the morning through the KDO doors for security purposes. The doors will remain locked for security,

*There will be a sign-in, sign-out sheet. It is very important you sign in; so that in the case of an emergency/fire, we know who is in the building. It is your responsibility to sign your child in when you arrive in the morning, and sign them out in the afternoon. We are not responsible for your child once they are signed out. This means they are in your care.

*You are responsible for walking your child/ren to the check in area whether that is the classroom or the gym.

*Parents are liable for any damage done to the building while the child is to be in your care.

*Students will be on time for class, prepared to participate, and will be expected to participate. We understand the parent has the final authority in the child’s education, but please be considerate of the classroom experience for others. When your student does not do the work as assigned or participate, it does cause issues for the teachers and other students. We understand these are elementary students, but encouragement from home goes a long way!

*It is expected that your student have will have the supplies needed in order to accomplish the work the teachers have set up for the students. This creates an optimum learning experience for your student!

*Those picking up your children at any time MUST be on the safety form you filled out at registration. There will be no exception to this rule.

*We also ask that you keep your child home if he/she is ill. Children with fevers, runny noses, upset stomachs or rashes should not be brought to class. Your thoughtfulness in this area is greatly appreciated.

 * We request that you handle any questions or concerns in a timely and respectful manner. For classroom concerns, see the teacher first. If you feel your concern has not been met, then contact the elementary liaison. For policy concerns, see a board member. Remember, if we are not aware of the problem, we can’t fix it.

*Parents are to be aware of our discipline policy. We follow the four strike method of discipline, and our anti-bullying policy for behaviors. (See below.) It is your responsibility to be sure your child understands the consequences of their behavior.

*JupiterEd or Shutterfly are the methods our teachers use to communicate weekly with the families. Please check with your child’s teacher if you aren’t getting weekly communications.

Responsibilities of Children:

-Children are expected to participate in a positive manner in the class.

-They are expected to respect the teachers and other students. Bullying will not be tolerated. (Please see policy on the website.)

-Students need to be sure they have their supplies each week. It is expected they take responsibility for what is to be brought in each week.

-Inappropriate speech such as swear words, girl/boy suggestive words, or words that are hurtful, mean, or negative to others will not be tolerated.

-Hands to yourself policy is followed at all times. You are not to touch others in an inappropriate, mean, hurtful or negative way.

-Students must respect the work of other children. You may not touch or deface the property or work of others.

-Children are expected to follow directions as they are given, use good manners, and keep safety in mind.

-Keep an indoor voice for indoors, and if the teachers allow, you may use your outdoor voices at recess.

-Students may not run in the building or wander around. It is your job to stay with your class in the proper designated area.

  • If the child needs to be sent home twice, there will be a one week suspension. Remember, payment is expected regardless of attendance. The Teacher/Elementary liaison will decide if the bullying policy needs to be in effect for the student’s behavior, otherwise this policy will hold for all general  discipline issues.

  • We greatly appreciate the church for its kindness in making their facility available for our use. It is very important to respect the church and the leadership by not running in or wandering the halls and by keeping the noise level down. Children must stay in the designated classroom area and not go off on their own. Destruction of the property will not be tolerated. Inappropriate behaviors toward other students, KDO or church staff are not acceptable. We desire to maintain a friendly and cooperative spirit with the church leadership so that we can continue to meet there. This means we must be on our best behavior while we are in this facility.
