Welcome to KDO - Elementary!
We are so glad that you have chosen our program to enhance your home school education. Grades 1st through 6th grades take a very "hands on" approach to learning. The students get to take trails west in the Westward Expansion, relive the Middle Ages with knights, experience a Chinese parade, examine animal organs in order to understand the human body, maybe even transport yourself to one of our 50 states to better learn about them. How about a Mexican Fiesta anyone? What about PA History? Students get to play group games, do group projects, all the while making new friends!
On this site (see links above) you will find our policies and guidelines, emergency form, safety form, and the calendar for the year. Please read through the policies and procedures of KDO to be sure you are in agreement. To attend class, the REGISTRATION, MEDICAL AND SAFETY forms must be submitted (see menu above) as well as payment received. You will be notified by the teacher if there is any additional information that the student may need.
Tuition, etc.: The quarterly payment is due at the beginning of each quarter. Tuition is $15/wk for the first child, $13/wk for the second, and $10/wk for any child thereafter. A $35 per/family cleaning fee is also due now or in September. Families may earn back the cleaning fee in tuition credit by helping in 7 cleaning/lunch room duties. Cash, money order, or checks made payable to KDO Academy are accepted. Payment is due for classes regardless of student attendance. Snow cancellations are the only exception for refund.
Mailboxes: Each week at KDO, blue file folder "mailboxes" are centrally located for each family to communicate with KDO board members, families, and teachers. Each family is assigned a folder. Please be sure to check your folder weekly. In addition to class room communications from the teachers, teachers may communicate via your folder or email you. Any communication to the teachers may be placed in their folder or emailed. Please use the board members' folders for anything you need to communicate to us. We want to work with you in an efficient manner. We appreciate any suggestions you may have for the board. We are always looking for ways to improve KDO!
Discipline: Students at this age level will be using the "street light" 3 strikes form of discipline. Each day, the student starts on the "green light". For first strike, the teacher will ask a student to stop the behavior. (The child stays on green.) If the behavior does not stop, the student will be removed to the side. (This is called being on yellow.) If behavior continues, the teacher will speak to the parent. (This is called being on red.)
We are looking forward to working with you! Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. We welcome hearing from our parents!
Helpers: For cleaning fee reimbursement, please contact Bonnie Leair (on the Contact Page) to sign up for 7 dates to help with clean-up or lunch duties . If you choose not to volunteer for reimbursement, you may sign the opt-out sheet. On your selected days to serve KDO, either for cleaning or lunch duties, check in at the front desk for instructions/cleaning sheet. Each cleaning sheet lists the job and instructions to complete it. The cleaning overseer provides the necessary supplies and any additional job expectations at this check-in. When the job is completed, you must turn in the finished sheet to the cleaning overseer for approval. When the cleaning job is approved, you will receive the credit for your services.
Communication: We are always trying to find more efficient ways to communicate to our parents. We rely heavily on email communication. Please be sure to sign up for our email updates HERE, then check your email regularly for any "general" KDO updates, announcements, and weather delays. We do list weather delays on the website also. Teachers will be emailing students homework so please be sure the students give their teachers an email address that they use and check frequently.
Lunches: Students must pack a non-refrigerated lunch each week. Once a month, we offer a special lunch opportunity. Pizza can be purchased by the slice. Each week, we also offer a snack cart filled with "healthier" snacks and drinks.
